Becoming a Precinct Committeeman (PC) is a rewarding experience that can occur through either election or appointment. PCs play a key role in local Democratic structures by electing party leadership and filling vacancies for elected offices.
**Election:** Every two years, during the August Primary, Democratic voters can elect PCs. If unopposed, candidates are automatically elected; contested elections will be on the primary ballot. Elected PCs assume office on October 1st. Candidates must file with the County Elections office by the Arizona Secretary of State's deadlines and can also run as write-ins.
**Appointment:** County Democratic Party organizations appoint PCs when vacancies arise. If there's an open position, the county chair, along with a legislative district chair, may appoint you. For more information on becoming a PC, contact the Pinal County Democratic Party. We're here to help you on this journey!
PCs play an essential role in electing Democrats. They get to know their neighbors, educate undecided or swing voters, and make sure Democrats are registered to vote. Before Election Day, they work to turn out voters.
PCs are also a central part of their local Democratic organization. They elect Party leadership, help fill vacancies in elected office, and attend their congressional caucus every two years. Becoming active with your Democratic Legislative District and County will make you a more effective PC.
