From Reader Suported News By Rogolfo F. Acuna
"In the big lie there is always a certain force of credibility; because the broad masses of a nation are always more easily corrupted in the deeper strata of their emotional nature than consciously or voluntarily; and thus in the primitive simplicity of their minds they more readily fall victims to the big lie than the small lie, since they themselves often tell small lies in little matters but would be ashamed to resort to large-scale falsehoods."
-Adolf Hitler
Arizona Gov. Jan Brewer recently said, "I believe today ... that the majority of the illegal trespassers that are coming into the state of Arizona are under the direction and control of organized drug cartels ... There's strong information to us that they come as illegal people wanting to come to work. Then they are accosted and they become subjects of the drug cartel." Brewer hedged her statement with phrases such as "I believe" and "There's strong information." However, she does not offer an iota of evidence - making it the most irresponsible statement that I have heard in my fifty-five years as a political activist.
The fact that Brewer equates an undocumented immigrant to organized criminals and members of the violent drug cartels is disturbing. With this type of misinformation by a public official, it is no wonder that over 70 percent of Americans support the repression of undocumented immigrants, believing that laws similar to those of Arizona will keep them safe.
History informs us that the Third Reich came to power as a consequence of half-truths and blatant lies that gradually made most Germans passively receptive to Nazi racial theories. The parallels between Germany in the 1920s and Arizona in 2010 are striking. Then, and now, intentional lies have that spread fear and hatred of the other.
Who is behind this mass hysteria in Arizona?

| Comments: | | | Tue, Jul 27, 2010 - 07:32 PM | comment from Mike Krueger | Mr. Acuna, other people in this country see the central problem of illegal immigration centering around the issues that you dismiss. That being, the increasing numbers of actual violent criminals entering into this country. Americans of various skin colors that I know personally share this concern.
Granted, it is not fair that decent people from south of the border have to be spotlighted because of the drug dealers and other thugs who mask themselves within the ranks of the innocent. This includes Al Queada members.
The question I pose to you is this, perhaps modify your position slightly in that by encouraging the innocent migrants to turn their attention towards the criminals and middle-eastern terrorists, and help bring them down. As an example, turn these people in to law enforcement on both sides of the border. As it is, the violence is horrendus, and you must surely agree, unnaceptable. Phoneix is the second higest city for kidnapping. I ask you as well as those who read this post, "who are the people being taken against their will, held for ransom, and often times murdered?" The answer is the innocent.
For years we have all turned a blind eye to the coyotes' and their smuggling of people accross the border. Now, the violence largely entangling the innocent has reached a critical mass. I am not suggesting that the average migrant worker take on these violent people through direct contact, but indirect. I have no doubt that the ordinary civilian regardless of nation of origin feels at times a strong fear of even making eye contact with such sociopaths. However, people with a voice and a desire for peace and justice can orginize others into a positive movement of acts of bravery. In this case, by quitely assisting law enforcement, in time, the criminal element can be reduced, ideally into non-existance.
The long term benefit to the innocent migrant is greater strength both in saying that, "we are in fact like everyone else, and are not going to tolerate those who do evil. We are peace-full people, we have proven our actions in standing strong, and we will continue to stand strong, not against the United States, but with you."
In time, this will placate the majority of Americans enough that such an act of solidarity of zero tolerance of crime will force a compromise with politicians of the left and the right. History in other places has proven this unity to be a true and proven method where it is the decent among us who win, not the sociaopath.
In pragmatic terms, "illegal" border crossings will continue because American Democrats want people from other countries to come here, gain citizenship, and then become voters. It's a power grab, nothing more. As for the Republicans, they will likewise continue to turn a blind eye to border crossings because they support small and large buisnesses who hire workers on the cheap. It's not that the American workers are unwilling to do the work, they just don't want to be taken advantage of by employers. Two or three hundred a week doesn't go very far in this country.
The average migrant worker should be demanding a higher wage, but because he U.S. dollar goes further in Mexico, they know better than to make such demands. The employers would begin to gravitate towards hiring Americans instead. The politicians on both sides in this country know this as well, therefore the status quo will remain unchanged even after the violent criminals are suppressed with the help of the innocent. To emphasize, help us stop the criminal, and the power then shifts to your interests.
On the other hand, if the drug runners, slavers, kidnappers, terrorists and other thugs continue to commit their acts of violence, while the migrants/ immigrants continue to look the other way, then in time the border will end up in near total lockdown. "A few bad apples will ruin it for everyone."
So I ask you to consider my solution. Work with those you are politically oppssed to by going against the real criminals. You do something in good faith, and out of human decency, I will return the respect.
I am a white conservative American, a former soldier, a former police officer, and I want you know that I honestly don't care what a persons skin color is, or their nation of origin. I would never go after somebody because of the color of their skin, but their actions if they were breaking the law. I care about peoples' character. I care about people who want and then do the right thing. I have no problem with another human being wanting to come to America to make a better life for themselves and their families, I'm all for it.
I currently work with people who can trace their family lines all the way back to old Spain, and like me, they too are very American, I've never thought otherwise. A few of these peoples families have been living in the now 'border' states since the late 1600's! I love the human diverse fabric of the American Southwest.
I want the real criminals among us to be be stopped.
Together, if we make an effort to think, and then act like a community, we can at least greatly reduce the numbers of the real criminals. Together we can build a higher standard of living, and increase the shared value of a peaceful life where we benefit because of each other, not despite of each other.
God bless.
